MLTS - Trails Days 2018 + Ebike Update
Hello Friends and Trail Users,
TRAIL DAYS KICKS OFF JUNE 2ND:
Summer is in the air in the Eastern Sierra and the Mammoth Lakes Trail System is kicking off the 10th Anniversary Season of Trail Days!
Please join our co-hosts, Footloose Sports and Sierra Dog Ventures, for the first Trail Days Event of 2018 in the Lakes Basin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2nd to celebrate National Trails Day and 10 years of community trail stewardship! Enjoy a delicious free bagel breakfast provided by Old New York Deli and Bagel and a gourmet lunch brought to you by Volunteer Eastern Sierra and Bleu Handcrafted Foods, along with raffle prizes, and lots of great giveaways.
The Mammoth Lakes Trail System has come a long way, and this is a perfect chance to celebrate how far we’ve come by helping to ensure a sustainable future for the Trail System we all know and love.
Dress for trail work. Closed-toed shoes and long pants required; carpool or ride a bike if you can. Visit mltpa.org or call (530) 251-6122 to speak with me, Joel Rathje, the Mammoth Lakes Trail System Trails Coordinator for details. Trail Days events are made possible by the Inyo National Forest, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Mammoth Lakes Recreation, and Mammoth’s own Measure R. See you Saturday up in the Lakes Basin!
- Saturday, June 2, 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Meet at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot for a free bagel breakfast, safety talk and work assignments.
- The work program will include trail maintenance, general clean up, landscape restoration and installing new signs in the Lakes Basin.
- Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Please dress for trail work: sturdy, closed-toed shoes, hat, long pants and gloves. All tools will be provided.
TO E-BIKE OR NOT TO E-BIKE:
As many of you may know, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has recently joined a short list of public land permit holders that allow class 1 E-bikes on trails. Class 1 E-bikes are limited to the MMSA bike park and to OHV routes and roads designated for motorized vehicle use. While this is very exciting news, E-bikes are not permitted on most Mammoth Lakes Trail System facilities. We are aware this may create some confusion this summer so we're installing signs at all non-motorized trail access points that will help provide some clarity. Trail users should expect to see “No E-Bike” signs at trailheads and other points of access. PLEASE take the time to understand where E-bikes are allowed before you head out for adventure!
