Seasons Greetings

Season's greetings friends and trail users thank you from our whole team for all of your support and participation over this last year!

After a great summer spent building new trails and maintaining our local trail network, the Mammoth Lakes Trail System (MLTS) and crew are welcoming a transition to winter with the continuation of our winter programs. Here are some things to look forward to:

SHERWINS ACCESS SIGNAGE:

In partnership with the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center, the Sherwins Access signs are out in the field and ready to go at three locations - Sherwins Trailhead (borrow pit), Mill City & the base of the Sherwins ridge off Lake Mary Road. These five-foot high signs will continue to provide up-to-date maps, safety information and avalanche beacon check points. And don't forget our important egress arrangement with Snowcreek Properties, ensuring the option of a convenient exit from the base of the Sherwins via the designated path across the golf course.

SHADY REST WINTER GROOMING:

This year's Shady Rest Winter Grooming Program is as dialed as ever and will be maintained all winter long - snow levels and conditions permitting of course. As long as there is an 18" base, it will provide up to 6 miles of non-motorized, multi-use winter trails for snowshoeing, walking, fat-biking and cross country skiing - a great opportunity for winter adventurers of all skill levels.

THERE IS NO POO FAIRY:

What began last year as a pilot program to clean up dog waste on and around the trailheads, has expanded this winter to include nine dog waste disposal stations around the MLTS to be maintained in partnership with Mammoth Lakes Disposal. The development and expansion of this program is a great step in a positive direction for our whole community. Please feel free to help out with our efforts to get the word out to locals and visitors alike to kindly respect our environment and pick up after our pets!

NO-SNOW OPTIONS:

We're all watching the weather to see what this winter season has in store, and if high pressure comes our way, please don't forget about all of our outdoor recreation options on lower elevation trails. Check mammothtrails.org for updates and suggestions.

Again, thanks for a great year on the MLTS and a happy holiday season to everyone!
